Position Summary
The Director of Dentistry provides clinical and administrative leadership for the dental services department within a community-based medical center. This leader is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered oral healthcare services while supporting the organization’s mission to serve underserved and vulnerable populations.
The Director of Dentistry oversees dental providers, clinical operations, quality initiatives, compliance standards, and strategic growth of dental programs. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and mission-driven leader committed to improving access to comprehensive oral healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Provide direct patient care as needed within the dental clinic
- Supervise and support dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, and support staff
- Ensure evidence-based, high-quality dental care delivery
- Promote patient safety, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives
Operational Management
- Oversee daily dental clinic operations and workflow efficiency
- Monitor provider productivity, patient access, and scheduling effectiveness
- Assist in budget planning and resource management for dental services
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and program development
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, OSHA, HIPAA, and accreditation standards
- Lead quality assurance and performance improvement activities
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and support regulatory readiness
Community & Collaboration
- Support integrated care initiatives alongside medical and behavioral health teams
- Participate in community outreach and oral health education programs
- Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care
Qualifications
- DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school
- Active and unrestricted dental license in the State of [State]
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical dental experience required
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Experience in community health, public health, or FQHC settings strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of dental operations, compliance, and quality standards
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electronic dental records (EDR) systems
- Bilingual skills are a plus
